University of Ibadan (UI) Applauds JAMB For The Introduction of CAPS
The Premier University, the University of Ibadan, has commended the Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB),Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, for his ingenuity in the introduction of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, gave this commendation when he paid a courtesy visit to the Registrar in his office in Bwari,Abuja.
Prof. Olayinka said,“We are impressed with the transparency associated with the conduct of the admission exercise as seen on the CAPS platform. The system helps control all admission processes thereby serving as a clearing house for the Board’s most vital mandate.”
The Vice-Chancellor, in company of top functionaries of the University, said that UI would do the needful in the admission process to support the Board’s drive towards excellence and credibility in the admission
process with little or no human interference or influence as facilitated by CAPS. He added that the delegation was on a familiarization visit to JAMB to address some grey areas in the process of admissions.
In his remarks, the Registrar said his preoccupation as far as admissions are concerned is to protect the interest of candidates and ensure that the power vested on the Senate and Councils of tertiary institutions are upheld without infringing on the rights of the candidates. He said, “CAPS was introduced to automate the admission exercise for candidates desirous of tertiary education in the country. The platform provides candidates as well as other stakeholder s involved in the admission exercise, with the tool to become active players in the admission process. Through CAPS,candidates can either accept or reject their admissions while candidates who reject their admissions will be placed in the Marketplace.”
He further stated that the automation of the admission process was made possible through the use of technology stating that, “CAPS was borne out of the ingenuity of Nigerians and, as such, I feel good to say that everything that technology can offer is present in Nigeria.”
The Vice-Chancellor, UI, was accompanied by Dr. Michael Alatise, the Bursar and Mrs. Morenike Afolabi, the Deputy Registrar, of the University.
