There is love in sharing

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, has informed the alumni association of the university about steps taken to reposition the institution in line with global best practices.

He said the steps are anchored on the increasing acceptance of the institution by the public.

The V-C made this declaration at the inauguration of a six member Board of Trustees of the association on Tuesday, July 3.

The board has Dr Charles Befii Nwile as chairman, while Professor Samuel Amaele will serve as secretary. Other members include Professor Joseph Kinanee, His Worship; Victor Nweke, Hon. Anthony Okeah and Mr Francis Ekadi.

He noted that although the university is relatively young owning to the fact that it was upgraded in 2009, he however, said he was impressed with the calibre of members of the association, and described the university as the fastest growing in the south-south.

Affirming that the alumni are very important in the development of a university, he expressed happiness that the body is cooperating with the management to move the school forward.

He disclosed that management is determined to create conducive environment by ensuring adequate security and the provision of modern facilities to boost teaching and learning, while efforts to increase internally generated revenue in the school are to complement subventions from government.

One of such efforts, Professor Ndimele disclosed, was the recently held capital campaign project where staff raised over N10 million to support the university, as he promised that the vote of confidence passed on him and his management team by the congress would motivate them to do more.

Meanwhile, the National President of the association, Pastor Ferdinand Amabibi has charged the new BOT to ensure the alumni grow to an enviable position. He reminded the body that the association is not a pressure group, but a partner in progress with the university management.

He also said that part of their responsibility was to brainstorm on how the alumni could give back to the university, as he disclosed that congress passed a vote of confidence on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele based on the numerous accomplishments recorded in the institution since his appointment.

Also speaking, the pioneer president of the body, Professor Tugwel Agina-Obu, who expressed happiness with the support the body gave him when he delivered his inaugural lecture, said he was happy with the level the association has grown compared to when it was formed.

“Today, we are proud to be members of this association”, he declared.
In his post inauguration remarks, the chairman of the BOT, Dr Befii Nwile, said it was an honour to be chosen and promised to do his best to help the university and the alumni grow.

“This is our alma-mata. We want to give back to the system that gave us what we have today”, he promised.
