ABOUT MICHAEL OKPARA UNIVERSITY
(MOUAU)
Michael Okpara University of Agriculture
Umudike, MOUAU originally was named
Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike
(FUAM).

The Federal Government on the 13th day
of November, 1992 established the
institution by passing a decree to that
effect. Formal activities for the institution
began on May 1993 with the appointment
of the first Council and Vice-Chancellor,
Professor Placid C. Njoku on 27th May,
1993.

The first set of students in the institution’s
history, were Eighty-two (82) students
who enrolled to pursue various courses of
study. The institution has since then
grown in astronomical numbers to a
present population of over Forty thousand
Undergraduate students.

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture,
Umudike, is located in an axis along the
road from Umuahia to Ikot Ekpene. Its
location is ten kilometers East of Umuahia,
the Abia State Capital.
